Cig Harvey is best known for her autobiographical photographs and exquisite use of color. Her photographs contain mystery and her new work amplifies their sense of wonder by incorporating computer software to subtly animate a still frame. At first glance, they appear to be traditional photographs with striking color and composition. A lingering look reveals that the blinking fireflies and falling snowflakes are doing just that. She has chosen to give life not to the subject of the image, but instead to the environment in which they live. A beautiful marriage of movement and stillness, these pieces do not compete with either the subject or the greater concept, but instead enhance the feeling of wonder and magic that Harvey brings into her photographs.
