This year, Olympus turns 100-years-old. To celebrate, the company released a 6-and-a-half-minute documentary titled “A Great Moment” about its history and the evolution of its cameras. Olympus was founded in 1919 in Tokyo by Takeshi Yamashita. Originally, the company was called Takachicho Seisakusho and made microscopes for the domestic market. In 1921, “Olympus” was registered trademark and the company was renamed Olympus Optical Co., LTD in 1949. Since then, Olympus has created many cameras for professionals and amateurs alike. The name was changed was again in 2003 to Olympus Corporation. 100 years after its founding, Olympus has branches in medial, imaging, and scientific solutions and employs 36,000 people in 36 countries. In the film, vintage footage of the research labs and manufacturing sites are shown alongside interviews with Olympus executives, technicians, and famous photographers.
