Founded by Jay Simple, The Photographer’s Green Book provides resources, “for an IDEA-Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Advocacy” in a series of lists and google drive documents.
The project was inspired by The Negro Motorist Green Book (1936-1966), a guidebook that provided readers with information on safe travel accommodations within a segregated United States. “The Photographer’s Green Book, in that tradition, is a list of organizations with a variety of purposes but that all promote and support the experiences and voices of diverse and traditionally marginalized experiences.”
Among the resources available is “A List for Those Considering Diversity When Competency Wasn’t Enough,” a series of questions intended to critically engage with the reader on issues of inclusion, equity, and diversity. The list can also be used to critically engage large-scale institutions in their curation. “The Green Pages” is series of google drive documents divided into topics such as Gaze, Identity+ Intersectionality, and History. Each folder contains PDF scans of books, article links, art examples, and zines pertinent to the topic.
