Photographer Jay Maisel is known for his iconic images that have graced the covers of New York Magazine, Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions, and Miles Davis’ album Kind of Blue. Since 1966, Maisel has lived in New York City at the corner of Bowery and Spring Street in a six-floor, 36,000 square foot, 100-year-old landmark building known as “The Bank.” Inside, Maisel has surrounded himself with a vast collection of objects extraordinary and ordinary. When Maisel sold his 72-room home it was the largest private real estate deal in New York City history. Filmmaker and Maisel’s former intern, Stephen Wilkes’ documentary Jay Myself takes us through Maisel’s astonishing home and follows his process of confronting his last half-century of collecting as he prepares to move.
