Last summer, photographer Mathieu Stern purchased a vintage Lubitel-2 twin lens reflex camera at a flea market in France. When attempting to load a new roll of film, he discovered an undeveloped roll of color film that had been left in the camera. Curious whether there were any usable images, Stern approached Nation Photo Lab in Paris, a company that specializes in handling aged films. Five usable frames were developed, prompting a deep dive into their origins. Stern’s short film follows his discovery and subsequent search for more information about the mysterious photographs.
