Crowd Funding Roundup: Intrepid 8x10 Camera

Crowd funding is becoming increasingly popular among creatives. With more sites sprinting up and more artists asking for funds, Don’t Take Pictures spotlights projects that benefit the arts community.

This month’s crowd funding roundup presents an affordable large format camera by Intrepid.

Intrepid 8x10 Camera – An Affordable Large Format Camera

The Intrepid Camera Company is back with a new large format camera, this time bigger and lighter than ever before. Weighing only 4.8 pounds, the 8x10 camera folds down to 75mm and fits a Sinar lens boards. The camera has front and rear tilt, and works with standard 8x10 film holders—including instant film holders—and can be modified for wet plate. The 8x10 comes with a choice of red, blue, black, or green bellows that are made from waterproof ripstop nylon. Although small and light, the camera is quite strong. Made from birch plywood and anodized aluminum for the structural components, the materials are high quality and long lasting.

The company is turning to Kickstarter to raise $23,362 in order to upgrade their machinery before beginning production. The funds will be used to purchase a CNC Router and Laser Cutter. Rewards are mostly in the form of pre-orders with $623 for an 8x10 camera with bellows in the color of your choice. Additional rewards include film holders, a 4x5 back, and other accessories. The Intrepid 8x10’s affordable price, combined with the lightweight design will make large format photography more accessible to photographers around the globe.
