Crowd Funding Roundup: Art on BART & The Art Census
Crowd funding is becoming increasingly popular among creatives. With more sites springing up and more artists asking for funds, Don’t Take Pictures spotlights projects that benefit the arts community.
This month’s crowd funding roundup presents projects that use innovative approaches to engage new audiences with art.
Art on BART
The creators of WanderArt have come up with a fantastic public art project designed to engage the general public. Art on BART is raising funds to purchase all of the advertising space on public transit cars and replace the ads with the work of local artists.
To fill an entire transit car with art would cost $1,000. The ads in each car alone reach 196,578 people over the course of a month. Art on BART’s goal is to have the art seen by over 1 million people, which can be achieved by filling six cars.

The Art Census
Docent.co was founded as a resource to assist art enthusiasts beginning their collections. They are now seeking funding for their newest venture, The Art Census. The Census is a location-based platform designed to help art lovers keep tabs on artists and art events in their own hometowns.
Using a map-centric system that caters to the users current location to help connect artists with local audiences. Docent is also incorporating The Art Box, a subscription based home delivery service to get collectors started. Each box includes a framed or unframed print of the subscriber’s choice, invitations to art events and information about new artists in their area. Additionally, a $10 credit to spend on an original work is earned for every month subscribed.
